President Obama and top Democratic congressional leaders have launched a final all-out push to enact a health care restructuring bill that, among other things, contains sweeping pro-abortion provisions.
For their plan to be successful, the Senate health care bill (with abortion funding) must pass the House of Representatives. We expect to have a vote in the House within the coming weeks.
Please contact you Congressman and encourage them to oppose the health care bill. Remind them that this legislation will lead to the greatest expansion of abortion since Roe v. Wade in 1973.

Senate Chooses Abortion; Decision Rests with House
State-Wide Newspaper Ads Released Reminding Senator Landrieu: Abortion is NOT Health Care!
In conjunction with Louisiana Family Forum Action and the Acadiana Right to Life Committee, Louisiana Right to Life has published half-page ads in three prominent Louisiana newspapers. The ads call attention to Senator Mary Landrieu's recent vote in favor of abortion funding and urge Senator Landrieu to oppose the vote on "cloture" on H.R. 3590.
The half-page ad will run in The Advocate on Thursday and the Times Picayune and Lafayette's The Advertiser on Friday. Click the image on the right to see Thursday's ad.
Benjamin Clapper, Executive Director of the Louisiana Right to Life Federation, stated, "Senator Landrieu has asserted in her defense of her vote against the Nelson Amendment that pro-lifers manufactured the issue of abortion in order to "scuttle" health care reform. However, this ad reminds Senator Landrieu, and Louisiana, that we believe abortion is not health care, and without the Nelson Amendment, the Senate health care bill will authorize government funding of abortion."
"We hope Senator Landrieu stands for Louisiana values by opposing "cloture" on H.R. 3590," Clapper concluded.
Contact Senator Landrieu and ask her to stand against government-funded abortions by opposing "cloture" on H.R. 3590. Remind her that a vote for H.R. 3590 is a vote for government funded abortion!
As we speak, Congress is taking up health care reform legislation that, if passed as is, will lead to the greatest expansion of abortion since 1973
Government Funded Abortion in Health Care: As a presidential candidate, Barack Obama pledged that “reproductive care” would be at "the heart" of his plan. Now, House and Senate legislation is following the President's wishes by placing abortion at the heart of health care reform. Take a look at these items which unquestionably show abortion will be government funded for the first time in the U.S. since 1976 if health care proposals are passed as is.
Rationed Health Care = Involuntary Euthanasia: Rationing of health care occurs when a person is denied treatment because there is only so much money for so many services. To avoid rationing, health care reform must have a sustainable means of full funding so that the budget does not come up short in the long term, forcing rationing. In addition health care reform must protect Americans from rationing or denial of treatment based on age, disability, or "quality of life."
As indicated below, Sen. Landrieu neglected to directly answer a critical question regarding the funding of abortion in health care reform at the town hall in Reserve on Thursday, August 27th (watch that video below).
Now, in conjunction with the Louisiana Family Forum and the Family Research Council, and other groups in Louisiana, Louisiana Right to Life has released an open letter and video to Senator Landrieu requesting that she publicly and clearly answer this direct question:
Will you commit to the citizens of Louisiana to actively oppose any health care proposal unless it explicitly forbids the government involvement in the funding of abortion and the mandating of abortion coverage by private insurance?
Today, we need your help by contacting Senator Landrieu and reminding her to answer the question. Call their DC and New Orleans offices now! (202)224-5824 and (504) 589-2427
Sen. Landrieu DOES NOT Answer Question on Abortion in Health Care Reform at Town Hall
At the high-energy town hall in Reserve on Thursday, August 27, Senator Landrieu neglected answering many questions directly, including a critical question on abortion:
* Question: "Would you make a commitment to us and the taxpayers of America to oppose any bill which does not specifically exclude taxpayer funding of abortion?" * Senator Landrieu's Answer: ".... I do not support taxpayer funded abortions, but I do support people's choice with insurance and I do support people's choice under the constitution to make a choice."
Benjamin Clapper, Executive Director of Louisiana Right to Life Federation, stated the following after the town hall, "While we certainly appreciate Senator Landrieu holding the town hall, we are disappointed the Senator did not answer the very clear and direct question asked about abortion. Senator Landrieu, we still are waiting for a yes or no answer: Will you oppose health care reform unless publicly-funded abortion is explicitly excluded from the legislation?"

Among others, HHS Secretary Sebelius was present in Reserve to discuss health care reform. Many pro-lifers were present to educate people that "Abortion is NOT Health Care!"
Over the past few months, Town Hall meetings have been held across Louisiana to discuss with Louisianians the details about the health care reforms in DC.
LA Right to Life hosted one in New Iberia in early June, while LA Right to Life has participated (by speaking and tabling) at forums hosted by Americans for Prosperity in Metairie, Baton Rouge, and Lafayette. So far, over 500 people have come out to share their thoughts and concerns!
