40 Days for Life (40DFL) is an incredible opportunity to unite members of your church or group in prayer and action. Through this campaign we are called to leave our comfort zones to respond to the reality of abortion in our community. The information below can be helpful to a coordinator or to a participant.
Coordinator: Every group/church that wants to participate needs one or more coordinators to connect its members with the campaign, and to communicate important information to participants. If you are a coordinator keep in mind that we are counting on you to communicate this information to your members. This ensures that their participation is the most fruitful, effective, and rewarding that it can be.
Individual: If you are an individual there are many ways you can participate. You can make a prayer & fasting commitment, join in the vigil as often as you like, and join in the outreach events. If you are part of a church or group that is not involved, you can become the coordinator. You can also become part of the team. We contact groups and churches, organize the events, do education and outreach, etc. All of these are amazing opportunities to make a meaningful impact in our community.
The Three Facets of 40 Days for Life, and How You and Your Group Can Become Involved
· Prayer and Fasting to End Abortion:
o Whenever you meet as a church/group before and during the 40 days pray together as part of 40 Days for Life. The prayer cards are perfect for this group prayer. Consider ordering some for your group.
· Peaceful Compassionate Presence: Causeway Medical Center - 3044 Ridgelake Dr., Metairie, 70002
o Getting out of our comfort zones: Today there are over 7,536 children and women who have been spared the pain of abortion because of the prayer and presence at 40DFL campaigns around the world. However, 40DFL does cause us to leave our comfort zone. That is actually the very thing that makes this campaign so powerful. It causes us, our friends, our family, and our community to confront the reality that abortions are happening every single day in our back yard, and there is a great joy and peace in taking this leap of faith.
o Adopt-a-Day: Visit our calendar to view available dates, or email our Communications Director, Caitlin Denley at email@example.com. Most coordinators pick one meeting or weekend of church services to speak to their groups about signing up for individual hours of the campaign. Check out our PDF Resources page to get necessary and helpful documents.
o Individuals: Do not limit yourself to only going on your group's adopted day during your adopted hour. For a 40DFL campaign to be succesful the community needs to take ownership and personally invest themselves in being at the site repeatedly. Don't check in and check out. Visit the vigil to pray repeatedly throughout the 40 days.
· Outreach: This year, in collaboration with the NOLA Needs Peace Coalition, we will be engaging in outreach at the site of the proposed Planned Parenthood regional abortion center on Claiborne Avenue on Saturdays and Sundays of the campaign. We ask that each group sign up members of their group for one or more outreach days.
We also encourage you to find other ways to educate and activate others about 40 Days for Life. You can distribute fliers and informational materials, volunteer to contact groups and churches, etc.
