40 Days for Life (40DFL) is an international campaign and an incredible opportunity to unite members of your church or group in prayer and action. The fall 2013 campaign will be from September 25th - November 3rd, 2013. Through this effort we are called to leave our comfort zones to face the reality of abortion in our community.
While it is primarily sponsored by New Orleans Right to Life, 40 Days for Life NOLA is a project of numerous pro-life people and groups of all denominations. See below for important events you need to attend!
The Three Facets of 40DFL
o The power of prayer cannot be overstated in this work. Encourage your members to commit to a daily prayer and fasting during the 40 days (Ask about our prayer commitment cards and prayer cards. You can contact Mary Nadeau: email@example.com.)
o Whenever you meet as a church/group, pray the 40DFL prayer on the prayer cards.
o Getting out of our comfort zones: Today there are over 7,536 children and women who have been spared the pain of abortion because of the prayer and presence at 40DFL campaigns around the world. However, 40DFL does cause us to leave our comfort zone. That is actually the very thing that makes this campaign so powerful. It causes us, our friends, our family, and our community to confront the reality that abortions are happening every single day in our back yard, and there is a great joy and peace in taking this leap of faith.
o Adopt-a-Day: Visit our calendar to view available dates, or email our Communications Director, Caitlin Denley at firstname.lastname@example.org. Most coordinators pick one meeting or weekend of church services to speak to their groups about signing up for individual hours of the campaign.
o We do all we can to promote awareness and education in the community. This year we will be doing outreach every weekend at the proposed site of the Planned Parenthood regional abortion center on Claiborne Avenue.
o We ask that each group consider adopting an outreach date in addition to a vigil date. Encourage your members to sign up for your outreach date and others.
The Coordinator's Meeting is for group coordinator's and the public to get all the information needed to inform their participants of their responsibilities and the rules involved in participating in the vigil. If you are a coordinator and will not be able to attend, please contact Mary Nadeau (email@example.com, 504.835.6520) to set up a phone meeting.
40 Days for Sidewalk Counseling Workshop: Saturday, September 14 @ 1-3PM, Old Metairie Library
This is an opportunity for members of your group to become trained in sidewalk counseling and the norms of general sidewalk presence. This training is optional. 40 Days for Life does not rely on sidewalk counselors, but upon the peaceful and prayerful presence of hundreds of individuals. It is not necessary to say a word to make an impact.
However, if members of your group would like to be able to speak to women entering the abortion facility then they need to receive this training.
40 Days for Life Kick-Off Rally: Tuesday, September 24 @ 6PM, Ridgelake Dr.
Join fellow pro-lifers in prayer and fellowship on the evening before 40 Days for Life begins, September 24th. The event will feature prayer, song and dynamic speakers such as Angie Thomas, Brad Doyle, and Father Beau Charbonet.
Candlelight Vigil in conjunction with NOLA Needs Peace: Friday, November 1 @ 6PM, Claiborne Ave. Planned Parenthood Site
On Friday November 1st we will be joining forces with the NOLA Needs Peace Coalition, with the Louisiana Right to Life Regional Conference ("Louisiana Needs Peace"), and the 40 Days for Life campaigns in Baton Rouge and Shreveport/Bossier to pray and stand together for life on Claiborne Avenue.
40 Days for Closing Celebration: Monday, November 4 @ 6PM, Ridgelake Dr.
Join us as we come together to close out 40 Days for Life 2013. We will enjoy prayer, fellowship, and jambalaya, and reflect on the joys and difficulties of the past 40 days. This is an important event going forward from 40DFL, as we resolve to maintain the ground we've gained, and to persevere in prayer and presence all year.
